Wednesday 21st Mar.2012 – skiing and walking :) ***** Sunny
To complete last night we came home after the swim I sewed up my broken zip
on my ski coat while Mag cooked a left over special and yummy it was too :)
We then walked up to our local – the K-Bar :) for a delicious beer and
free Wi-Fi! We connected to the internet with the help of a nice young lady
(they had changed the password!!) and we left some messages on Facebook,
checked the bank – we have a little left!!! Then sorted out the 180
emails we had and I discovered I had won a Fanatic ‘Fat Cat’ – the
large volume Mega Cat :) now I have a problem :( I placed a bid before we
left never expecting to win!!! Now we had to pay with paypal which we did
just before the battery ran out and contact the owner of the board and say
that we are not back to June or see if our son Rob can get it for me ??? He
must be getting fed up of picking up windsurfing kit for me!!! The board is
in Wokingham – any of my mates going that way soon to get it for me???
Long shot I know!!! While all this computer work was going on a three piece
band was setting up all their equipment in this tiny bar!!! I pushed the
boat out and ordered another beer and we sat listening to this top group
with fantastic sound all the songs were in English with a strong reggae
feel :) The band consisted of an old swinger who played a mean acoustic
guitar, a bald bongo/cymbal player and the great front man a French/Indian
with amazing dreads who sang and played electric guitar and electric
bongo’s and really knew how to get the crowd going!!! he even made a joke
about our age and being old enough to have been at Woodstook – cheeky
bugger !!!
It was way past eleven when they stopped for a break so we shook hands with
the lead singer and said what a great band they were and headed home
shattered – a top top day – skiing, swimming and clubbing not bad for a
couple of old swingers !!!
After yesterday’s hectic day we were going to be lucky to make the 9:15
lift but after getting up at 8:30 we had a quick breakfast, I packed cheese
and salad in a tub, we took a French stick from the Sherpa and still made
to the lift by 9:20 to make the most of the sunshine :) Our plan today was
to make the most of the newly pisted slopes then head for home when the
snow turned to mush!!! We covered nearly as much of the area as yesterday
whizzing down the great selection of runs from wide reds to narrow tree
lined blues and greens – this really is a nice place to ski, perfect for
families :) We were at the bottom of Chamrosse 1650 waiting the bubble when
about 50 chefs in white bibs turned up with their own cameramen doing some
sort of challenge!!! It was chaos for a while but we all made it to the top
before they all set off like a bullet out of the gun :) An English couple
said it was the French master chef contestants! There was more giant slalom
today starting at the top of the Black –Olympique Homme, we watched a
couple start before skiing down to a bend where we could watch the
competitors fly past really close – I managed to get some cool shots!!!
With the snow softening now we headed over to where we had seen the
Crossbills earlier in the week, and had a rest and our picnic under the
pine trees, sadly the birds were thin on the ground but we managed to see
one Crossbill and some Crested Tits :) The snow was really bad now, like
skiing in treacle so we went back to our apartment; Mag read her book on
the settee while I did the same in my shorts outside in the hot sunshine :)
Then well rested we donned our walking boots and headed down toward the
large cross-country ski area and found a signed footpath to a lac and
headed off up the hill through the pines in search of some wildlife, again
a bit thin on the ground but we did see a couple of Mistle Thrushes singing
their hearts out :) It was the most fantastic walk up and down along a deep
snowy path 3/4 feet deep in places with melting snow forming lovely
streams, very very pretty and we had it nearly all to ourselves even if we
didn’t make it to the lac – that’s for another day and we made it
back just up the road from home – stopped at the Sherpa for provisions
before running the bath to relax our tired old legs!!!
